After helping nearly 1,300 households in Portlands Hazelwood and Mill
Park neighborhoods get prepared for emergencies, the Oregon Trail
Chapter hit the streets of Hillsboro, distributing free
smoke detectors, batteries and first aid kits on July 11 and 12.
Hillsboro was identified after mapping the sections of the metro
area with the highest need for Red Cross emergency assistance. The
event was sponsored by Portland General Electric, CDW Corporation and
State Farm Insurance Companies.
By the numbers:
- 62 Red Crossers helped prepare Hillsboro
- 81 households now have working smoke detectors
- 500 first aid kits were distributed
- 1456 families received emergency preparedness information
- 686 people had direct contact with a Red Cross canvasser
