When we are faced with an International Disaster in
the news, our volunteers often ask how to become an international
responder and receive an assignment to the site of the disaster. Chapter
and American Red Cross volunteers serve in their local area and, if
qualified in the DSHR system, are eligible for national deployment to
areas within the American Red Cross jurisdiction.
International responses are requested by the national Red Cross
entity affected by the disaster. Another national entity, such as the
American Red Cross may respond to that request with donations,
assistance with supplies, and with deployment of qualified response
teams specifically designated and trained for international response. See the American Red Cross International page for more information.
