The Day of the Ride

Please be up and ready to receive a call from Red Cross after 8 a.m. It is important that we confirm your ride that morning or we may not be able to send a volunteer to pick you up.

Be dressed and ready to go 15 minutes before your scheduled pickup time. Watch for the Red Cross vehicle. If the vehicle arrives and you are ready, you may leave early. The driver may not be able to wait for you past your pick up time.

The Red Cross driver can provide you with a wallet-sized card with the Red Cross telephone number if you need to contact us from your destination.

Please remember:
You must wear your seat belt while in the vehicle. There are no exceptions

In accordance with Oregon law, children less than six years old and under 60 pounds must have a child's seat for use in the vehicle. All children must be accompanied by and seated next to an adult escort.

Please do not ask the driver to make additional stops. The volunteer can only take you to your scheduled location.

If you are going shopping, please do not bring back more than two bags. Bags must be secured on the floor of the vehicle, in the space between the seats. No items may be left in the aisle.

Volunteer drivers and escorts will determine if they are able to assist you with bulky packages or grocery bags. If an item is too heavy, the volunteer may not be able to assist you. In addition, volunteers can offer assistance only to the door of your destination, not into your home.

Portable oxygen tanks that can be secured may be transported on Red Cross vehicles.

Animals are not allowed on Red Cross vehicles. Trained assist dogs are the only exception.

When driving conditions are hazardous (snow, ice, etc.), most trips will be canceled. Only life-sustaining medical trips will be attempted.
