The Tracing Process
Holocaust and War Victims Tracing Center

The Holocaust and War Victims Tracing Information Center is a collaborative effort between International Social Services and the Central Maryland Chapter in Baltimore, Maryland to provide tracing, documentation, and referral services regarding victims of Nazi persecution who were living in Europe, Eastern Europe and the former U.S.S.R. between 1933 and 1957.

In 1989, the Soviet Union released documents from Auschwitz and other camps to the International Committee of the Red Cross. This cache of documents, which included 46 death books and thousands of names, provided the single largest source of information made available since the end of World War II.

How the Oregon Trail Chapter Can Help

The Oregon Trail Chapter can link a local person making a tracing request with the tracing resources of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. During the last decade, the American Red Cross has assisted with thousands of inquiries from individuals seeking information about loved ones missing since the Holocaust and World War II.

To begin a search, please call 503-280-1455.

All tracing services are confidential and free of charge.
